Many summers ago, a lowly nameless ashigaru sought leave from his lord to undertake the musha shugyō, a warrior's pilgrimage, to hone his skills in the hopes of being deemed worthy to become samurai.
Will his lord's favor await the shugyōsha at the end of his journey, or will there be yet a final test for his blade?
